Nick Beckett joined Balmain in 2003 with 10 years commercial and institutional banking experience. He joined with Ward Wescott, one of the Balmain founders, in partnership to jointly develop the commercial loan book into the large, diverse and enduring business that it is today.

Nick is managing partner of the Sydney office.

Michael established Balmain’s first office in 1979. For 20 years he oversaw the Sydney office as Balmain consolidated its position as the market leader in commercial loan origination in NSW. In 2003 Michael became Executive Chairman of the Balmain Group and at that time passed the managing partner baton in Sydney office to Nick Beckett.

Michael still operates a large commercial loan book meeting the needs of long term clients of the firm.

After an international career at Citibank, Ward joined Balmain in the early 1990’s and grew a substantial mortgage lending team from a standing start over the next 10 years. He became a director in 1995. Recently, that team has grown into a partnership within the business with Nick Beckett sharing the business development role.

Ward now has over 30 years of commercial lending experience and a lending book which is one of the largest within Balmain.

Ward and Nick always look forward to working with established and new Balmain clients in providing the financial resources to support their growth.

Neville has been involved with Balmain since 1993 and is currently a shareholder and director of the Sydney office. He has been associated with the banking and finance industry for over 35 years and during this time has developed strong skills with a particular focus on development/construction funding. Experience and skill sees Neville associated with senior debt, mezzanine debt and joint venture structures for a broad range of purposes including land subdivision, multi storey medium density residential, commercial, retail and industrial projects.

Peter is a director and shareholder of the Sydney office. He joined Balmain in 1996 with nearly 20 years experience gained in the banking and funds management sectors where he focussed on all facets of business and property finance.

Surprisingly enough, after having studied for several years and securing a stable career in the health profession Julie shocked her family and friends by announcing in 1987 she would forsake all for a new career in finance . . . in the non-bank field.

Initially Julie thought this would be a fun aside for a year or two. Now she admits how much she enjoys helping clients buy and refinance property, restructure their loans and plan new ways to assist them acquire real estate. It is challenging and fun.

Julie's clients think of her as their non-bank manager. She knows and understands them and their business and therefore can have finance approved quickly and effectively when the need arises.

On a personal note, Julie enjoys a laugh (she likes playing golf), tennis and reading.

Matthew commenced in mortgage lending with a large bank in Sydney in 1986. He has since worked with mortgage trusts in commercial lending and construction finance as well as run his own property services business specialising in commercial fit-out and leasing.

Matthew joined Balmain as a partner in 2002 where he has continued to add value for clients through a broad capability in commercial property.

Following a 10 year career within the banking sector, Ben decided in early 2005 that it was time to join Balmain so he could offer a more entrepreneurial financial solution to his clients. After completing a bachelor of business in finance and marketing, Ben’s finance experience has spanned 3 major banks with roles in Brisbane, London and Sydney. His experience includes managing corporate and business banking clients with a strong focus on structuring property finance transactions.

The ability to provide clients with the whole range of financing options from senior debt through to mezzanine debt and equity has given Ben the ability to structure unique and complex property finance solutions.

Ben believes the funding sources available to Balmain enable him to deliver a level of service and product that is unrivalled in the banking and finance sector.

Dan has been with Balmain for 6 years and has experience structuring funding solutions for both simple and very complex property-backed loans. Despite the current borrowing limitations in this credit environment, Dan continues to procure funding lines for his clients through a combination of sources that includes: Major and Regional Banks, CMBS Funders, Mortgage Trusts, Mezzanine Debt Providers and Private Debt Funders. Dan’s primary areas of specialisation include arranging development finance and refinancing existing commercial property debt.

After completing a double Bachelor’s degree in Commerce and Arts, Alex joined Balmain in 2001 as a credit analyst in current CEO Michael Holm’s team. After 4 years of commercial mortgage experience she moved into funds management with Balmain AQUA (then Mirvac AQUA) and later BDM Direct. Responsible for attracting retail investment into various mortgage, equity and agricultural based funds, Alex developed strong relationships in the financial planning community.

Early 2010 Alex identified a gap in the market – there were no commercial mortgage originators specifically servicing the financial planning community and their clients! Full of excitement at this discovery, Alex rejoined Balmain as a partner with a strong focus on servicing planners and their clients. Outside of work, Alex loves skiing, adventure holidays and cooking for her family and friends.
