Balmain appointed David Jones, Mark Hayes and Luke McKenzie to open its practice in Brisbane in 1997. Later they were joined by John Petzke in their directorship and together they have overseen the creation of one of Balmain’s pinnacle origination businesses.
From its humble beginnings, the Brisbane office now houses eight origination teams. Located in the award winning Riparian Plaza in Brisbane’s CBD, the office continues to grow with partners and associates and the clients that we introduced to Balmain’s unique property finance solutions.

Mark simply doesn't take an order to deliver a funding solution - he lives and breathes the asset and matches his clients commitment to the targeted outcome. David was one of the founding directors of Balmain Brisbane in 1997. Since that time, David has been at the wheel driving the business, offering clients a wide range of commercial loan products to grow their property assets. He also specialises in construction finance providing structured solutions based on the very latest information and products available. David prides himself on securing the deal which best suits his client.

Guy holds a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Economics and joined the National Australia Bank straight from university in 1994. Guy spent 11 years at NAB mainly in Brisbane focusing on the local property market, during this time Guy also worked in Sydney for a period in the National Australia Bank’s corporate credit area.
This experience gives Guy the skills to provide quick decisions which are paramount in the current property environment.
On a personal front Guy enjoys all sports and has a particular passion for rugby.

Tim joined Balmain in 2006. His depth of skill and experience in banking and property finance on a national as well as international level is astounding. On graduating from university Tim cut his teeth in the UK investment banking scene with structured lending and restructuring large corporate debt. He then moved onto mergers and operations restructure then credit risk analysis.
Arriving in Australia Tim was involved in property marketing and mortgage fund origination followed by a stint with the NAB.
Since 2006 Tim has built a prime quality book. His experience, knowledge and attention to detail adds immeasurable value for his growing list of clients.
Tims interest include; travel, rugby, whitewater rafting and wine.

Tony joined Balmain Commercial in September 2006 having spent over 22 years involved in the property finance industry, both in Sydney and now Brisbane.
He spent over 8 years within Challenge Bank’s property division from 1988 to 1995. He then accepted a role at the Queensland Industry Development Corporation (QIDC) as a senior relationship executive, where he was responsible for an investment and development portfolio valued at over $400million.
The merger of the QIDC operation with Metway and Suncorp in late 1996 eventually resulted in Tony being promoted to the position of State Manager Property Investment Queensland, where he was responsible for a property book of over $1.5billion and a staff complement of 24 people throughout Queensland.
Married for over 22 years and with two teenage children at home, Tony has also served as a member of the Divisional Council of the Property Council of Australia and a board member of the Hear and Say Centre for Hearing Impaired Children and is currently the coaching staff coordinator for a local football club.

Shane’s background is property. Before joining Balmain he spent 4 years with Westpac Property Finance including 2 years with Westpac Institutional Bank providing funding to developers and investors and managing a large mortgage portfolio. Prior, Shane had 15 years experience as a Property Valuer predominately with CBRE and DTZ. He specializes in development projects and has an intimate knowledge of the development process including planning, design, feasibility and finance. He works closely with clients to assist with a smooth delivery of cash flow and closely with lenders to assess and mitigate risk.
